AYTB Construction and Fabrication division ... turning on an excellent performance

Over the years, the division has executed an impressive number of projects across a diverse range of industrial sectors. These projects include mechanical erection, electrical and instrumentation in addition to managing civil and building works

Since its establishment in 1979, Al Yusr Industrial Contracting Co (AYTB), a 100 per cent Saudi integrated organisation offering a wide range of services and solutions, is striving to provide its clients with competitive quality in products and services in a safe manner.

The efforts have been recognised by various stakeholders by awards and repeat orders. Each project is taken up with a concept of partnering with the clients, says a company spokesman.

The project requirements and priorities are understood and an execution plan prepared considering HSE, quality and schedule requirements. The work is performed accordingly and monitored closely for meeting the objectives of schedule and quality.

The strength of organisation lies in its project management systems and skilled and dedicated human resources. AYTB is also a learning organisation -- upon completion of each project, the performance is reviewed. A list of lessons learnt is compiled for future implementation, says Kevin J Hudson, CEO of AYTB. A considerable emphasis is placed on training and development of workforce for technical and soft skills.

Over the years, AYTB’s Construction and Fabrication business has had a steady growth. It has been supported by other divisions of the organisation such as Housing and Catering, Industrial Services and Equipment and Transportation to further its expansion.

Acquisition of knowhow and technology have also been a priority to improve capabilities and capacity. In the area of plant construction the company has the capability to offer services as a general contractor taking up civil, mechanical and E&I works.

The capability includes the ability to work for both greenfield and brownfield projects. Assistance is also offered during the commissioning stage of process plants. The company has the capability to undertake system flushing, chemical cleaning and catalyst loading, explains Peter Williams, vice president of AYTB’s Construction and Fabrication Division.

"Working in live plant environments, undertaking de-bottlenecking projects, is an AYTB niche. The resources and management systems deployed understand typical procedural and interface requirements," he says.

AYTB’s Construction and Fabrication division also has a distinguished record of managing a large number of people and equipment to undertake construction of grassroots industrial plants and major additions to existing units.

Further, AYTB owns and maintains a significant number of construction equipment, heavy lift machinery and tools to enhance its field construction capabilities.

Over the years, the division has executed an impressive number of projects across a diverse range of industrial sectors. These projects include mechanical erection, electrical and instrumentation in addition to managing civil and building works. The expertise is not limited to steel structures, pipe spools, static and rotating equipment erection, heavy lift management, HVAC, insulation and painting, he says.

AYTB’s Construction and Fabrication division has a significant presence in the field of plant annual plant turnarounds. It has the ability to render turnaround responsibilities of a complete plant on a vertical basis. It can plan, mobilise and manage a large number of competent resources for a short duration of time. Activities undertaken during a turnaround typically include, scaffolding, replacement of piping spools, valves, exchanger cleaning, column tray replacement and catalyst reloading. The availability of multi-lance automatic hydro-jetting machines in association with specialised services companies is a leverage for a safely and timely completion of plant turnarounds.

AYTB also has in-house capabilities for fabrication. The company owns and operates fabrication facilities and lay down yards in Jubail, Yanbu and Qatar. The Jubail fabrication facilities are ASME certified, with "U", "PP", "A", "S" and "R" stamps.

It is equipped with semiautomatic cutting, beveling and welding equipment, plate-rolling and shearing machines. A separate machine shop is equipped with lathes, shapers, drilling and boring machines. The facility can handle various types of materials including carbon steel, low temperature carbon steel, stainless steel, low alloy and special alloy materials. The facility capabilities include over 500,000 ID of pipe spool fabrication per year.

Recently, AYTB joined hands with a reputable French furnace tube manufacturer, Manoir Industries, to locally assemble radiant and convection coils for the petrochemical industry, specially ethylene furnaces and gas reformers.

The company specialised in furnaces, boiler and heat exchanger revamping works. It has successfully executed the revamping works in various hydrocarbon processing plants. AYTB is also undertaking repair and assembly of skids, including modular metering and filtration skids.

AYTB sees Saudi Vision 2030 as the vehicle that shall bring about massive economic and industrial improvements to the kingdom. Together with the In-Kingdom Total Value Add (IKTVA) program, it will also open new horizons of opportunities for local businesses. The company appreciates the potential and plans a new manufacturing facility in the Ras Al Khair Industrial City. Hudson has emphasised the importance of bundling all capabilities more effectively to better serve the Saudi oil and gas, the hydrocarbon processing the steel and aluminum industries as well as power and desalination plants.
