De Villiers ... building on a heritage

The firm is responsible for the regional Perkins distribution strategy and the management of Perkins after-market parts and product support capability across the Gulf region including Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, UAE and Yemen

Kanoo Machinery LLC, member of YBA Kanoo, one of the largest family-owned multinationals in the Middle East with an extensive portfolio of complementary businesses and strategic partnerships, has been appointed the Arabian Gulf distributor for Perkins, one of the world’s leading providers of diesel and gas engines.

Kanoo Machinery is responsible for the regional Perkins distribution strategy and the management of Perkins after-market parts and product support capability across the Gulf region including Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, UAE and Yemen, says Graeme De Villiers, general manager, Power Business UAE, Kanoo Machinery LLC.

Building on a heritage that dates back more than a century, Yusuf Bin Ahmed Kanoo (YBA Kanoo) is a name to be reckoned with in the region. Established in the Kingdom of Bahrain in 1890 as a small family trading and shipping business, the group has evolved into a diversified conglomerate that provides a broad range of quality products and services that meet the highest international standards.

Kanoo has either directly or through its associated companies been a distributor for Perkins’ products for over 57 years in various territories within the Gulf Cooperation Council.

The key focus areas for Kanoo Machinery specific to Perkins include industrial engines sales and application solutions and support to OEMs (original equipment manufacturers) based in the Arabian Gulf; after-market part sales to support Perkins’ customers; technical advice and support to OEMs in the region; ensuring a consistent level of product support for all Perkins engines in territory; as an authorized Perkins District Training Centre; Kanoo Machinery provide Perkins engines training to its distribution network, OEMs, OEM dealers, large fleet owners and end users; and quick resolution for customer engine breakdowns through regional workshop teams during warranty period and after.

While Perkins diesel engines are used globally in over 5,000 product applications, they are a market leader in the power generation sector and a household name across the Middle East region, he says. OEMs and customers alike are drawn to the Perkins brand not only because of proven engineering excellence, coupled with quality and reliability; but also, due to the consistent after-sales support they get from the approved Perkins distributor, Kanoo Machinery, De Villiers says.

"Working hand in hand with Perkins, Kanoo Machinery is proud to promote the Perkins® My Engine App, which is available for free in multiple languages to support maintenance, service and repair of one’s engine on mobile or tablet. Whether one owns s Perkins engine or has a small fleet of Perkins-powered machines, this App reminds one when engine service intervals are pending and gives one all one’s engine information, wherever one is," he explains.

To meet the demands of the ever-changing product support requirements for the new generation of technologically advanced Perkins engines entering the market, Kanoo Machinery works with the region-wide Kanoo distributor facilities to ensure Perkins global parts and service support standards are delivered at each location across the Arabian Gulf, says De Villiers.

Kanoo Machinery has an after-sales network of dedicated Perkins technicians that offers field service and workshop repairs in addition to regional technical product support. Multiple spare parts outlets in each territory improve parts availability and customer engine uptime.

Kanoo Machinery Perkins technicians have undergone rigorous Perkins certified training to gain the technical knowledge, expertise and diagnostic skills needed to carry out all servicing and maintenance on Perkins engines.

Kanoo Machinery provides genuine Perkins spare parts in accordance with its quality assurance manifest, stocking more than 5,000 active Perkins spare parts and uses a parts identification system to minimise customer machine downtime, he adds.
